The Masters – Round 2

The second round of the Masters brought clarity to the field, as Friday at Augusta National began separating contenders from those heading home early.

While Thursday is about positioning, Friday is where the pressure truly arrives. Players fought not only the course but the cut line, knowing every stroke mattered as the leaderboard tightened and the weekend came into focus.

By the end of the day, a more defined group emerged at the top, while several high‑profile names found themselves on the wrong side of the cut.

Heading into the weekend, the leaderboard reflects a balance of experience and momentum.

Rory McIlroy moved into the lead after a strong second round, capitalizing on scoring opportunities and avoiding costly mistakes. Close behind, Sam Burns and Patrick Reed remain firmly in contention, setting up an intriguing weekend at Augusta.

Course Conditions

Friday offered conditions similar to Thursday, though softened greens and more accessible pin positions reduced some of the challenge as the day wore on.

  • Morning: Cool and crisp start in the low 50s °F
  • Midday: Temperatures climbed into the high 60s
  • Afternoon high: Around 72–74°F
  • Sky conditions: Mostly sunny with occasional cloud cover
  • Rain: None
  • Wind: Slightly stronger than Thursday, gusting at times between 10–15 mph

Augusta National’s greens were watered ahead of play, softening conditions and making approach shots more receptive. This allowed players to be slightly more aggressive without being as heavily penalized for small misses.

Average Field Score — Rounds 1 vs. 2

  • Round 1 average score: 74.65
  • Round 2 average score: 73.20
  • Scoring improved by more than a stroke on Friday, reflecting both softer greens and players settling into tournament rhythm.
